Trade Gap Will Likely Expand

We’ll start with the headlines.

“Trade Gap Probably Widened, Import Prices Rose: Economy Preview” says a headline from Bloomberg on Sunday.  Courtney Schlisserman reports…

“The U.S. trade deficit probably widened and the cost of imported goods jumped, underscoring how the surge in oil prices is hurting growth and igniting inflation, economists said before reports this week.”

We’ll have to wait until Friday to see if the Commerce Department’s trade report supports this prognostication.

In the meantime, we see that the DOW opened the day on Monday at 11,289.  On the day we left – June 26th – it had opened at 11,808.  What happened in between, we don’t know…nor do we care to piece together.

Mob Psychology Research

For the moment we are still distilling the findings of the research on mob psychology we conducted last Friday night.  Where, for your benefit, we donned a Luchadore mask and headed out with our friend Xavier to downtown Mexico City to insert ourselves in the weekly Lucha Libre (i.e. wrestling) spectacle. 

The atmosphere inside the arena made the dot com mania of the late 1990’s and the housing obsession of 2001-2006 seem calm, cool, and rational.  For looking around, we found ourselves surrounded by what appeared to be every misfit, malefactor, lunatic, weirdo, and psychopath in the area.  Thus, we felt right at home.

And after observing the spectacle here’s our conclusions…

For every idiot that stands up, beats his chest, stomps his feet, and screams out loud…there are a hundred others willing to line up behind him.

The more absurd and preposterous the cause…the more idiots there are to pursue it.

When money or salvation is involved…the confines of idiocy expand.

And when both are involved…they cease to exist.

Vast…colonial…historic…decay…modern…Spanish…Aztec…Tenochtitlan…Indian…legends… crowds…traffic jams…concrete…bucket showers…missing toilet seats…graffiti…turquoise…silver…street tacos…sorted meats…cathedrals…churches…family…mountains…valleys…political rallies…fiestas…music…parades…pyramids…pools…big smiles…outdoor markets…stray dogs…chili spice…green…clouds…plazas…and more.
